Du Deyun, a native of Huangpi District in Wuhan City, is a post-1960s generation and currently serves as the chairman of Wuhan Du Zhuang Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative.
Du Deyun began driving a hand tractor at the age of 16 in the production brigade. After the implementation of the annual production contract responsibility system, in addition to cultivating his own 10 acres of contracted land, he successively purchased a 55-horsepower and an 80-horsepower tractor to engage in agricultural machinery operations for additional income. At that time, his annual income from planting and agricultural machinery operations was about 30,000 to 40,000 yuan. In 2013, while driving a tractor downhill over a bump, a machine failure caused the tractor to overturn, fortunately without any injuries. Since then, he has been determined to choose high-quality and reliable products when purchasing agricultural machinery.
As Yaojiajie Street is a "concentration area" for the use of Kubota agricultural machinery (almost everyone who uses agricultural machinery for income uses Kubota), after much inquiry, he found that everyone's evaluation of Kubota was quite good. For example, Kubota products are of high quality, easy to operate, agile, have high work efficiency, long service life, and good value retention. In addition, the after-sales service of the local dealer, Hubei Shunye Company, is good, which gives everyone peace of mind. Therefore, he resolutely chose the Kubota brand.
According to common sense, those who are used to driving tractors should start with purchasing Kubota tractors for income, but Du Deyun went against the norm and first chose a Kubota semi-combine harvester. In May 2013, he purchased his first Kubota agricultural machinery product - a semi-combine harvester PRO488, which uses the engine model V2203-M-DI-ES07. This engine is a vertical water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with high efficiency and reliability, capable of quickly and efficiently harvesting high-yield crops, and that year he made a net income of 80,000 yuan; in April 2015, he purchased another Kubota PRO588 semi-combine harvester, which uses the engine model V2403-M-DI-T-ES03, and that year the net income from the two semi-combine harvesters reached 150,000 yuan, successfully opening up a path to wealth through work. From 2015 to 2019, he also successively purchased a Kubota M954 tractor and a PRO688 full-combine harvester. In 2019, the net income from agricultural machinery operations reached 250,000 yuan. In order to further expand the scale and provide more professional services, in July 2020, Du Deyun established the "Wuhan Du Zhuang Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative" with himself as the chairman and five members, expanding the contracted land area to 1,000 acres.
In 2023, upon hearing about the launch of Kubota's "National Four" new products, Du Deyun purchased another Kubota M954 tractor, an 8-row riding-type high-speed rice transplanter, a seeding production line, and an EX118Q full-combine harvester each. In 2024, he also purchased a new Kubota M704 tractor. Currently, the cooperative has 11 pieces of agricultural machinery (sets), of which 9 are Kubota products, excluding plant protection drones and combined rice machines. The machinery for plowing, planting, managing, harvesting, transporting, and processing is complete, and the full-process mechanization model for rice production has basically been formed.
At the beginning of 2023, with the consent of his university-graduated son Du Zhuang, Du Deyun had his son resolutely quit his job in the big city to become a new farmer and a good helper in the cooperative's operations. When asked why Du Zhuang returned to his hometown to be a farmer from the big city, he replied cheerfully, "I majored in mechatronics at university. The current agricultural machinery is updated and iterated quickly. I want to use my knowledge to make the agricultural machinery 'turn' and lend a helping hand to my father. Moreover, as a member of the Communist Party of China, it is my bounden duty to address the issue of abandoned farmland in rural areas, ensure national food security, and accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas."
The father and son fight side by side, along with the concerted efforts of the members, the Wuhan Du Zhuang Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative achieved remarkable results in 2023. In addition to completing the full-process mechanization operations of its own 1,000 acres, it also provided social plowing and leveling of 2,000 acres, seedling and transplanting of 800 acres, aerial protection of 2,000 acres, harvesting of 1,400 acres, and rice processing of 4,000 tons, with agricultural machinery social service income reaching 500,000 yuan; in addition, the income from planting its own 1,000 acres of transferred land was 1.2 million yuan. The total income from the two was 1.7 million yuan. After deducting the transfer fees, production costs, operation costs, member wages, and other expenses, the net income was 400,000 yuan. Du Deyun's family has also become a well-deserved wealthy family in the local area.
When talking about future plans, Chairman Du Deyun said that Kubota agricultural machinery will be used as an important technical support for agricultural production in the future, and will continue to accelerate the modernization level of agriculture and rural areas. At the same time, he looks forward to Kubota providing a variety of agricultural machinery products such as ridge builders, ditchers, dryers, small vegetable transplanters, and especially intelligent, high-end, green, and multiplex agricultural machinery products to meet the diverse needs of agricultural machinery users.
